Yesterday when we sat outside having our brunch enjoying our backyard and the already quite warm sunshine, my husband noticed a "string" of large red ants on the property-line-wall. Since there are ants often I wasn't too worried about it, until he went on an in depth exploration...
The "highway" wasn't just a mode to get from A to B; it was to get to one of our beautiful hibiscus plants. The plant was alive with all the ant activity, and upon closer examination we found that they already had built 3 nests in said plant by folding leaves together.
Just seeing all those red ants made my skin crawl, every itch you feel could be an ant and you don't want to imagine this red army marching into your home!!! So we asked for the garden manager to stop by. After asking a second time and later a third, he finally showed up and acknowledged we had a problem.
In the next hour one of the gardeners committed mass murder in our backyard, all the while trying to brush off angry red ants of his arms, legs, (bare) feet and one even got into his ear!! He found 2 more nests hidden in our creeper and also the bamboo seemed infested. Luckily the poison he used was very potent and probably banned from most Western countries, but yesterday I didn't care!
Now, it's eerie quiet in the backyard... Like a graveyard... Literally! The wall, ground and plants are all covered in a layer of reddish brown corpses. I'm usually more a live and let live kind of person but these just came a little too close for comfort!
