The masterminds behind our compound have come up with a solution; let's build little overhangs above the windows and doors; that way the water and sun won't be able to touch the wood directly and it should prevent the wood from getting much worse.
So for the past couple of months every house in our compound has been equipped with these little "roofs". During this process they discovered that roof tiles take away quite a bit of the light from the interior, so halfway through they decided to switch to glass panes.
This week, our house was being prepared. All kinds of installations and machines were brought up the stairs, leaving dirty track marks all over the floors. After 2 days of banging, drilling and welding all windows are now prepared for the glass overhangs, and as soon as those are installed we should be good to face the monsoons that are approaching rapidly.
