Lately we've been having some problems with mosquitos. Apparently the whole of Whitefield is a heaven for these buggers, but our problem is that they have found a way INSIDE our home.
On any evening you could find 30 to 50 mosquitos buzzing around in our livingroom, trying to find a nice juicy person. I personally didn't find it the biggest of problems; my husband is the one with the yummy irresistible blood type, so they all go to him and I only get the occasional stray. But hubby became quite miserable, and therefore irritated and that DOES make it my problem. So something needed to be done.
I ordered weather stripping in order to close all the gaps between the windows and doors; if I can poke my finger through the gap, mozzies will have no trouble getting in! I found an alarming amount of large gaps, so much so, that I had to order more stripping. Unfortunately this did not seem to help much with our mosquito problem...
Next, a friend suggested the buggers may sneak in through our bathroom-window-fans. These fans have slats on the outside that close when not in use, but they do leave small gaps... So I ordered insect screening and wrapped all fans with the screening. No insect can get through I'm sure of it, but still mosquitos find their way into our home...
At a total loss we searched the house for holes we might have missed, used silicone calking to close the smaller gaps, but still in vain. One evening we were in the kitchen discussing what could be our next step to stop the bloodsuckers, when we noticed a concentration of the mozzies around our stove. "You think they might come in trough the vent hood?"... So I took out the filters of the vent and OH MY GOSH!!! At least 20 or 30 came out right then and there!!! Having some leftover insect screen I fabricated a screen over the ventilation hole and thank goodness that was the "plug" we were waiting for.
Now, every time you turn on the vent hood the first few seconds you hear "tick-tick-tick"; this is the very satisfying sound of mosquitos being vented out!
